Our Plan
The ECA Six-Point Plan
Ahead of the May 2023 election, ECA candidates set out a clear, practical six-point plan built around the issues residents told us mattered most, not national politics. It's stayed at the heart of everything we've done since.
The six points
Point 1
Housing and the Mayoral Development Corporation
Building on the success and legacy of the late Councillor Sheila Bailey to bring more much-needed 2 and 3 bedroomed council houses. Continuing to advocate for an Article 4 Direction to address the growing number of HMOs, and ensuring developer contributions are directed to upgrading Hollywood Park. Demanding a place on the MDC Board, so plans for housing in the MDC area are prepared with Edgeley's interests at the fore, not according to political party priorities.
Point 2
Policing
Working closely with a new, bolstered Neighbourhood Policing team on the priorities the community sets, including a rolling programme of work to tackle illegal off-road bikes, and continuing to request Greater Manchester Police's attendance at our regular open public forums.
Point 3
Edgeley Park expansion and matchday parking
When Stockport County does well, Edgeley does well. Maintaining a good working relationship with the club through what is set to be an important decade, as plans to expand Edgeley Park are due. Working to ensure a Council parking survey across Edgeley runs smoothly, and pushing for an expanded parking zone if residents clearly want one.
Point 4
Taking the lead on dog fouling
We've heard too many stories of children missing their first class of the day after stepping in dog mess on Edgeley's pavements. The ECA carries on its "Show Dog Fouling the Red Card" campaign, pushing Stockport MBC, in partnership with GMP, to enforce the by-laws that already exist to reprimand owners who leave home without the means to pick up.
Point 5
Castle Street: a credible plan for investment
Labour and Liberal Democrat-led Stockport Councils went round and round in circles on Castle Street for years. Edgeley deserves a District Centre people actually want to spend time in, so the ECA put forward its own draft plan for updating and upgrading Castle Street for the Council to adopt and take forward.
Point 6
Cleaner alleyways and greener communal spaces
Thanks to a resolution Councillor Wynne passed at the Town Hall in March 2023, Community Payback teams are based in Edgeley, deep cleaning our alleyways. The ECA keeps building on the fantastic progress residents have made greening their alleyways, turning neglected spaces into ones the whole community can enjoy.
