Our Plan
Show Dog Fouling the Red Card
We've heard too many stories of children missing their first class of the day after stepping in dog mess on Edgeley's pavements. This campaign is a message to the very small minority of dog owners who want all the joy that comes with owning one but none of the responsibility: get it picked up.
Show your red card, download the poster by clicking the image below, and pop it up in your window. The more of these residents see around Edgeley, the harder the message is to ignore.
Enforcing the rules that already exist
The ECA carries on its "Show Dog Fouling the Red Card" campaign, pushing Stockport Council, in partnership with Greater Manchester Police, to enforce the by-laws that already exist to reprimand owners who leave home without the means to pick up. The by-law requires anyone walking a dog in public to carry the means to clean up after it at all times, and we periodically check in with the Police and Council on joint operations to challenge dog walkers on this.
This builds on point four of our Six-Point Plan, taking the lead on dog fouling (pun intended).
Manchester Evening News covered the campaign, including the Council's refusal to let us put these signs up on street furniture. Displaying the poster in your own window helps make up the difference.
Seen it happening?
Report it to the council directly, not just to us. Your report is what gets it officially counted, and councillors can follow up and escalate, but only once it's on record. If the address or phone number of a known offender can be identified, a warden will attempt to speak to that person within 5 working days.
