To the people of Edgeley and Cheadle Heath,
It's been a real privilege to represent this community since 2019. As my current term comes to an end in May 2027, I've made the decision not to stand for re-election.
It's been quite a ride. Eight years in the Town Hall and out on the streets, chasing things up, occasionally chasing my own tail and ruffling a fair few feathers. But I've always tried to be straight with people and fight for what I believe is right for our area.
When I was first elected, I wasn't from Edgeley or Cheadle Heath. I knew I had plenty to prove, and that residents had taken a chance on me. I've tried to repay that trust through my work ethic and commitment to the area.
The difficult period surrounding the local Labour Party will certainly stay with me. The incredible support shown by residents during that time is a testament to what people are like around here and then going on helping us to build something positive out of a difficult situation: the Edgeley Community Association. The ECA belongs to its residents, volunteers and supporters. It's bigger than any one councillor, and that's how it should be.
Having qualified as a solicitor in June, I've had to be realistic about balancing my career with the demands of being a councillor. I don't want to short-change the ward or any of it's people by not being able to give the role the time and energy it deserves.
My priority now is finding the right person to take the baton next May. Someone with the commitment to represent our community and build on what we've achieved. Applications to stand as our ECA candidate remain open. Get in touch at edgeley.community@outlook.com if you're interested.
I'll continue serving as your councillor until May 2027, and I'll remain involved in the ECA afterwards, helping build its future and supporting Asa and Jess.
To everyone who voted for me, helped out, delivered leaflets, offered support, bought us a pint or stopped me in the street for a chat: thank you.
It's been a privilege xx
