Over the past 24 hours I have received a number of complaints from residents regarding parking associated with attendance at Elaf Mosque.

Having reviewed the evidence provided, I fully understand why many local people are frustrated. Concerns have been raised about vehicles parking on double yellow lines, across junctions and, in some instances, creating potential difficulties for emergency vehicle access.

Residents should be assured that these concerns are being taken seriously. Significant efforts have already been made by local partners, including SMBC and The Edgeley Community Association, to help address the issue. This included changes to parking arrangements at Aurora Business Park to provide additional parking capacity for visitors.

Unfortunately, the complaints we continue to receive suggest that the measures introduced have not achieved the level of improvement that was hoped for.

I have therefore requested a further meeting with Stockport Council officers to discuss the situation and agree what additional steps may now be necessary. This will include discussions around parking management, enforcement and how we can ensure that everyone using the area does so responsibly and respectfully.

I know emotions are running high, but I would ask everyone to remain respectful in their comments and towards one another. This is a community issue that requires a practical solution, and we will achieve far more through constructive engagement than division.

I will provide a further update once discussions have taken place and next steps have been agreed.
