Be glad to see the back of the remaining KX100 telephone kiosks on Castle Street.
In the age of mobile phones, they’ve become little more than advertising revenue for what’s left of BT, who seem incapable of maintaining them properly.
We’ve put forward a credible plan for Castle Street, but it looks to have hit the buffers with little interest from the Liberal Democrat-run Council to get behind it. That’s disappointing, but as Edgeley councillors we do not sit back and watch Castle Street continue to be neglected.
In the meantime, we’ll keep pressing those who need to do better.
Co-op HQ is now getting on with refurbishing its store. We need proper answers about the future of Edgeley Post Office, which currently looks like a wartime set-up. Absent commercial landlords need to be held to account for the state of their properties. And we’ll keep doing the work of holding Greater Manchester Police to account.
These aren’t unreasonable asks. They’re the basics that residents and businesses should be able to expect.
Castle Street matters to Edgeley. If some won’t show the leadership needed to turn things around, we’ll keep pushing the organisations that can make a difference.
