Another weekend, another portrait of anti-social parking across Edgeley on a matchday.

We know residents are frustrated. We live here. We see it too.

And be angry — you have every right to be. Nobody should have to put up with pavements blocked, driveways obstructed and dangerous parking simply because there is a football match taking place.

But this has to be about more than Facebook grumbles. Something actually needs to change.

We are left with the Council saying a lot but not acting quickly enough to make the current Matchday Parking Zone fit for purpose. Missing road markings and signage have been reported to the Council over the summer, yet we're still seeing problems that should have been addressed.

We are raising this publicly at the Town Hall and through Council meetings with the Liberal Democrat-controlled Council, as well as doing the behind-the-scenes work to try to get things moving.

And we're working on this from multiple angles:

🚔 GMP — making the case for dangerous and anti-social matchday parking to become a neighbourhood policing priority.

🚌 TfGM — pushing for additional buses on matchdays to help people get to and from Edgeley Park and reduce pressure on residential streets.

🚗 Stockport County — pushing for funding to be released early so consultation can begin on an expanded Matchday Parking Zone.

And locally, we are using our limited Ward budget to tackle some of the acute areas where anti-social parking is taking place by introducing double yellow lines.

But let's be clear: double yellow lines in a handful of locations are not a replacement for a properly designed and enforced expanded Matchday Parking Zone.

That is the long-term solution we need.

If this was happening in Liberal Democrat-controlled areas, I suspect money would suddenly be found to deal with it — much like the money that appeared this week for the Council to U-turn on the blue bin fiasco.

Edgeley shouldn't have to rely on political favour to get action.
